Library Staff Profile: Mohammad Aslam

July’s staff profile highlight is Mohammad Aslam, MLIS, MA, BLS, BA, who is always there to troubleshoot any issues you have with our online databases and ebooks. You can see him at the Mesa campus!

Position title: Electronic Resources Librarian

How long have you worked for the library?
I have been working for the last three years.

What made you want to work in libraries?
I have an intense desire to help and serve the academic community; libraries are fundamentally about service. Librarians thrive on connecting people with the resources, answers, skills, or even just the quiet space they need. It’s deeply rewarding to make a difference in someone’s life, education, or project.

What do you like most about your job and about working for ATSU?
I enjoy optimizing academic library websites and designing user-friendly navigation, which allows me to directly improve how students, faculty, and researchers access and use digital resources. I also appreciate the opportunity to build partnerships and collaborate with different departments and schools, strengthening the library’s role as a central resource for the ATSU community. Working in this role lets me stay at the forefront of digital library trends and research, aligning with my interest in publishing in top library and information science journals, especially in digital libraries. I value the ability to contribute to the library’s strategic goals and support ATSU’s mission through thoughtful management and innovation in electronic resources.

What is a fun job you had before ATSU?
A fun job I had before joining ATSU was serving as a university library director. In that role, I enjoyed leading a diverse team, collaborating with faculty and students, and implementing innovative strategies to enhance library services. I found it especially rewarding to work on projects that improved access to electronic resources and fostered a culture of open communication and continuous improvement within the library. The dynamic environment and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the academic community made the position both enjoyable and fulfilling.

What is a fun/unique/exciting tidbit to know about you, or how do you spend your free time?
I enjoy exploring how technology can improve user experience in libraries, but outside of work, I like to spend my free time engaging in activities that help me unwind and stay balanced. This includes reading widely beyond my professional field, exploring nature through hiking or walking, and sometimes diving into creative projects that allow me to think differently and refresh my perspective. These hobbies help me bring renewed energy and creativity to my role as an Electronic Resources Librarian.
