3D Printing & Dental Teaching Aids

The Library, Academic Technology, and Anatomy departments recently collaborated with Kapil Jadhav, BDS, DMD, MPH, assistant professor, director, Specialty Care Unit Endodontics, ATSU-Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health, to create a custom 3D-printed tooth model.
This hands-on teaching aid features a simulated root canal with precise anatomical landmarks, including the apical foramen and apical constriction. Using the model alongside an Electronic Apex Locator (EAL), students can practice placing endodontic files to better understand the direct relationship between canal anatomy, the apical constriction, and working length. By providing a standardized, repeatable environment, this tool bridges theory and clinical practice, strengthening students’ psychomotor skills before they care for live patients.
