Third-year A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) student Theresa Nguyen received the Vick Family Memorial Financial Award on Tuesday, April 28. A check for $250 was presented to Nguyen by OMM Chair Michael Lockwood, D.O., and Suzanne Vick, a Kirksville resident.

The Vick Family Memorial Financial Award was established in 2006 to honor the late David A.Vick, D.O., ’63, and his son, Paul David Vick, D.O., ‘87, also deceased. Dr. Paul Vick was a graduate of KCOM, and Dr. David Vick was a graduate of the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB). Both Drs. Vick were devoted to providing quality healthcare to their patients through the practice and advancement of osteopathic medicine. Dr. David Vick served as associate professor for KCOM’s department of osteopathic manipulative medicine (1999-2005) and director of undergraduate teaching fellows (2001-05). Dr. Paul Vick, a psychiatrist, practiced in Springfield, Mo.

Nguyen, who will graduate from KCOM in 2010, plans to specialize in osteopathic psychiatry. “I will carry on the dream,” she said.
