University receives community support

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Dec. 11, 2007) – Peter Detweiler, Alliant Bank CEO and member of A.T. Still University’s Board of Trustees, presented two checks totaling $3,500 to ATSU’s President James J. McGovern, Ph.D., on Friday, December 7. Detweiler presented a $2,500 check as the first gift of a $12,500 five-year pledge from Alliant Bank to ATSU. “Alliant is pleased to be able to make this gift to ATSU’s annual campaign. Our bank’s mission is to be partners with the communities we serve. We are proud to be associated with such an outstanding University as ATSU, and we appreciate the leadership of its President, Dr. James McGovern,” Detweiler said. The second check of $1,000 was a personal gift from Peter and Sally Detweiler.

Both gifts are unrestricted and allow the University to use the funds where needed most. Improving the University’s educational programs is priority for most unrestricted funds, as well as improving facilities. According to Bob Basham, C.F.R.E., vice president of institutional advancement, Detweiler’s contribution is important for improving education while keeping costs low for students. “Our University is a champion at keeping tuition realistic for students. Asking others to help with the cost of that education makes the education better and less costly for our students.”
