Student takes the crown in inaugural Derby Pie Contest
Posted: May 11, 2009Student Services sponsored its first ever Derby Pie Contest on May 1 in celebration of the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby. Arizona Campus faculty, staff, and students entered the contest, with rules requiring that the pie be homemade, include chocolate, and be submitted with a copy of the recipe.
Darcy Derickson, PA ’10, took home the first prize trophy and a dozen red roses. Cecelia Sartor-Glittenberg, M.S., PT, NCS, physical therapy assistant professor, was first runner-up, and Annie Halsey, OMS I, was second runner-up.
Pies were devoured by hungry judges Ken Pavlicek, Ph.D., ASHS assistant dean; Mike Kronenfeld, M.B.A., MLS, Learning Resource Center director; and special guest judge Michael Poppre.
