Simon appointed chair of PA program

Albert “Bert” F. Simon, DHSc, PA

After careful consideration by the ASHS search committee of all eligible applicants for the position of ASHS chair of physician assistant studies, Albert “Bert” F. Simon, DHSc, PA, has been appointed chair effective August 6.

A member of the SOMA faculty since 2005 (the last few years as SOMA vice-dean), Dr. Simon currently serves as special assistant to the SOMA dean and special assistant to the ASHS dean. Prior to working at SOMA, Dr. Simon was chair of physician assistant studies at ASHS and has chaired two other very successful PA programs (Baylor College of Medicine and Saint Francis University). He is well known in the PA education community for his expertise in the areas of program accreditation, quality improvement, faculty development, and strategic planning.

“Dr. Simon’s excellence in all of the above areas will serve the PA program, the School, and the University well,” said Randy Danielsen, Ph.D., PA-C, DFAAPA, dean, ASHS. Dr. Danielsen also extended a special thanks to Bob McMullen, who served as interim chair over the last few months.
