Second-year team tops first-year students in thrilling ATSU women’s flag football Founder’s Day championship game

A.T. Still University’s annual Founder’s Day Women’s Flag Football Championship between the first- and second-year students delivered an unforgettable finish for players and fans on the Missouri campus this year.

The second-year students (the 29ers) defeated the first-year students (the Dirty 30s) by a score of 14-12 with a touchdown on the final play of the game.

And it came only seconds after the Dirty 30s had scored to take the lead themselves.

The 29ers got off to a quick start, scoring on the first play of the game and adding a two-point conversion to make it 8-0. They then came up with an interception on the Dirty 30s first drive, but the first-year class defense held to keep the margin at eight.

It remained that way for much of the rest of the game. The Dirty 30s scored to make it 8-6, but failed on the conversion that would have tied the game.

Then in the final minute on a fourth-down play, the first-year team scored on a touchdown pass to go ahead 12-8.

Down to the final seconds, the 29ers hit on a big pass play to get into scoring position, and on the last play scored a touchdown to clinch a thrilling 14-12 victory.

Congratulations to all of the players and coaches on a memorable afternoon, and enjoy some photos below!
