NEMO Triathlon makes a splash
Posted: September 16, 2010A.T. Still University’s 26th annual Northeast Missouri (NEMO) Triathlon was held September 12 at Thousand Hills State Park.
Participants began checking in for the event at 6:30 a.m. on race day, and the triathlon began at 8 a.m. Nearly 160 participants competed individually and in teams in the 3/4-mile swim, 18-mile bike ride, and 5-mile race to the finish line.
Kevin Brueck, from Burlington, Iowa, was the fastest overall male, completing the race with a time of 1:33:14. The fastest overall female was Leslie Curley, from Topeka, Kan., who finished in 1:48:45.
The NEMO Triathlon is one of the longest running events sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the governing agency for the sport. Since the inaugural race in 1985, more than 40,000 people have visited Kirksville to take part in the triathlon.
