MAHEC and ATSU broadcast live course across Missouri

Missouri Area Health Education Centers (MAHEC) and ATSU hosted Medical Explorations in Science & Anatomy (MESA), a distance learning course for high school students interested in health profession careers, on October 28. ATSU fellows, led by Michelle Hovorka, presented the course to students around the state of Missouri, including locations in St. Joseph, Springfield, Poplar Bluff, St. Louis, and Kirksville. The presentation, “You take my breath away – Trauma to the pulmonary system,” used both lecture and high quality, hands-on animal dissection, which was broadcast live from the Welch Studio, located in the Connell Information Technologies Center on ATSU’s Missouri campus in Kirksville. The Welch Studio is equipped with high quality video and audio, allowing the fellows to demonstrate techniques with lung dissection and intubation. More MESA programs are upcoming.
