IOMS elects McClallen as president

Harald Lausen, D.O., M.A., FACOFP, FAAFP, immediate past president of IOMS passes the gavel to Gerald McClallen, D.O., FACOEP, FACEP.
Gerald McClallen, D.O., FACOEP, FACEP, a board certified osteopathic Emergency Physician from Carbondale, Ill., was elected president of the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society (IOMS) during its recent Winter Scientific Seminar and Annual Meeting in Lombard, Ill. The president is the highest rank of the Society, and terms are for one year.
Dr. McClallen, originally from Eureka where his father and brother and family still reside, is dually board certified in both emergency medicine and family medicine. Dr. McClallen is the chief of staff and chair of the Medical Executive Committee for St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, where he is the director of Emergency Medicine. As chief of staff, Dr. McClallen also represents the medical staff on the Southern Illinois Healthcare Board of Trustees. He is also on staff at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and Herrin Hospital. In addition, he is a part-time attending physician at the Southern Illinois University (SIU) Student Health Center in Carbondale.
A leader for the Southern Illinois Healthcare System, Dr. McClallen is a member of the Physician Health Organization Steering Committee and the Professional Services Committee. He has previously served as Chief Deputy Coroner for Jackson County, and as Physician Medical Director for Region Five of the Southern Illinois EMS System.
Dr. McClallen is a 1977 honors graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana, where he then served as a research assistant before attending Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He and his wife Deborah McClallen, DVM, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in July 2010, and they reside in Carbondale. They have four children: Jessica Lamb (Mrs. John), Nathan, Mark, and Scott; and one granddaughter, Venice.
