Honoring Dr. Still at his grave
Posted: September 24, 2010As part of the Missouri campus Founder’s Day festivities, ATSU honored the father of osteopathic medicine A.T. Still, M.D., D.O., at a graveside ceremony on September 23 at Llewellyn Cemetery. ATSU President Jack Magruder spoke of Dr. Still’s hand of compassion for his patients and the Kirksville community, who supported him in several ways. Ron Gaber, Ed.S., vice president for student/alumni affairs, shared plans to make significant improvements to the Still family plot during the next year, including brick walkways, fencing, and refurbished headstones. KCOM Dean Philip Slocum, D.O.;Heather Martin, class of 2013 president; and Raymond Fisher, class of 2014 president, placed a wreath on the founder’s grave. The first graveside ceremony was held December 12, 1919. Dr. Still died December 12, 1917.
