The American Dental Education Association (ADEA), in association with the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity, has named Roy P. Holexa, D.D.S., director, Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ASDOH), the recipient of the first ADEA/Alpha Omega Foundation/Leonard Abrams Scholar in the ADEA Leadership Institute. The scholarship was created this year to promote leadership development among dental educators by supporting a Fellow in the ADEA Leadership Institute. Named in honor of the late Dr. Leonard Abrams, an internationally recognized educator and researcher in periodontology and prosthodonics, the scholarship recognizes an individual who exhibits excellence in teaching and compassion toward his fellow human beings and who upholds exemplary ethical and professional standards.

“While dental education faces a number of challenges, one of the greatest is securing leadership for the future. The ADEA Leadership Institute cultivates promising leaders across the dental education field,” said ADEA President Charles N. Bertolami, D.D.S., D.Med.Sc.

The year-long ADEA Leadership Institute is a premiere faculty development program in health professions education. Participants are among the nation’s most promising faculty. As an ADEA Leadership Institute Fellow, Dr. Holexa will focus on a broad range of issues including policy, finance, legislative advocacy, and gender and workforce issues. He has 28 years experience in dental education and is currently a comprehensive care unit director at ASDOH.
