Ex-major-leaguer trades his bat for a dental drill
Posted: July 21, 2011As a father of four, college retread and former Major League Baseball player, Brian Banks, D.M.D., ’11, doesn’t fit the average dental school graduate profile. At 40, he is embarking on a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry while most dentists his age are looking back on a decade or more of practice.
What also sets Dr. Banks apart is that he opted to study for his dramatic career change at an atypical dental school. The former Milwaukee Brewers and Florida Marlins outfielder is among 59 recent graduates of Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Ariz.
