CGHS alum selected for CDC fellowship

Badgett was one of 212 applicants chosen from an applicant pool of more than 3,100. Her fellowship assignment will begin Oct. 4 in the epidemiology division of the Florida Department of Health located in Seminole County, Sanford, Florida.
“My fellowship will consist of monitoring reportable diseases and outbreaks,” said Badgett. Her responsibilities will include conducting active and passive surveillance to detect diseases and adverse health conditions, investigating reports of acute diseases and outbreaks, and recommending appropriate prevention measures, treatment, and control. In addition, Badgett will be monitoring and investigating reports of unusual health conditions, conducting data analyses, and responding to disease-related inquiries from residents, healthcare providers, and others.
Her training also will incorporate hepatitis testing, vaccination, counseling, and community education for the at-risk and infected populations, plus emergency preparedness, incident command, and epidemiology strike team training.
