Audiology student workshop focuses on ear wax management

A full-day cerumen (ear wax) management workshop was held on Jan. 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for audiology students. In addition to lectures presented covering case histories and ear canal anatomy, students—who were faculty-supervised —provided ear exams and wax removal when needed.
“Ear wax is protective, but too much wax can cause discomfort, itching or ringing in the ears (known as tinnitus),” said Tabitha Parent-Buck, AuD, professor and chair of the Department of Audiology. Wax build-up can also interfere with hearing aid use and audiological test procedures.”
