ATSU staff buddy up with school children

ATSU staff members from Institutional Advancement joined more than 1,100 children from Title 1 elementary schools at the Legacy Backpack Buddies Project at Phoenix Preparatory Academy in July.
Backpack Buddies gives children from low-income families the opportunity to receive new back-to-school clothing. Each student receives a backpack and is able to go through the gymnasium with a volunteer and choose various items such as shirts, shorts, books, and shoes.
“It was such a rewarding experience to see the joy on the children’s faces when they realized every- thing was for them,” said Whitney Roberts, director of development for institutional advancement.
This is the second year the Institutional Advancement team has volunteered and sponsored a classroom for the annual event.
