ATSU-SOMA announces partnership with Chicago-based health center

A.T. Still University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) is pleased to announce their latest community health center partnership with Chicago-based Near North Health Service Corporation (NNHSC). In August, 10 ATSU-SOMA students will begin their second year of medical school – and continue the remainder of their training – at North Kostner Health Center, NNHSC’s newest location.

ATSU-SOMA currently partners with 12 community health center campuses that are dispersed throughout the U.S.  Each campus, where students receive clinical training from health center faculty and clinical teachers at associated institutions, has a distinct partnership with ATSU-SOMA. Students remain connected to the home campus in Mesa through video technology and visits by the school’s faculty and leadership.

This model of teaching encourages careers in primary care medicine, and as seen in the school’s residency match outcomes: Nearly 70 percent of graduates chose a primary care residency, and 90 percent chose a needed specialty residency. By 2017, 30 ATSU-SOMA students will be training at NNHSC.
