Third- and fourth-year students from A.T. Still University’s Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH) collaborated with Smiles of Hope and Heart to Heart Mission to provide urgent dental care to 34 people. This marked the first dental mission for Heart to Heart and served as the kick-off to their “Health in the Heartland” initiative.
Smiles of Hope is a ministry of the Lighthouse Church in Dexter, Missouri. They have a ten-chair dental clinic that was built through donations and is staffed by volunteers. ATSU-MOSDOH Dean Dwight McLeod, DDS, MS, and Herbert Silva, DMD, comprehensive care unit director for ATSU-MOSDOH’s St. Louis Dental Education and Oral Health Clinic, were in also in attendance to supervise and help with more difficult cases.
