ATSU-KCOM professor promotes education abroad

Rekha Yesudas, PhD, traveled to India in 2018 to promote lifelong learning and reward academic excellence.

Dr. Yesudas, a professor of pharmacology at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM), addressed students of all ages at four different schools. Topics included how to be a better student, the role of education in empowering young women, and promoting higher education as part of the Kulathummel Government Higher Secondary School’s medical awareness program.

In addition to speaking with students, teachers, and families, Dr. Yesudas contributed monetarily to schools. Following her contributions, St. Theresa’s LPS Thoongampara School in Kerala, India, was able to complete roofing to cover the school’s classrooms, providing a safer learning environment for students.

Eight top-performing and graduating seniors from the Poovachal Government Vocational Higher Secondary School also received financial awards and certificates from Dr. Yesudas as a reward for their outstanding academic performance.

“In the busy, competitive, and materialistic world, I still believe ‘giving back to the community is important’,” Dr. Yesudas said. “Every year I do various things to make a change in society.”

Dr. Yesudas is originally from India and received her PhD in Pathophysiology and Parasitology from the University of Kerala in India.
