On September 13, hundreds of athletes splashed into the waters of Forest Lake at Thousand Hills State Park to kick off the 25th anniversary of the Northeast Missouri (NEMO) Triathlon, organized by A.T. Still University.

Participants began checking in for the event at 6:30 a.m. on race day, and the triathlon began at 8 a.m. Approximately 190 participants competed individually and in teams in the .75-mile swim, 18-mile bike ride, and 5-mile race to the finish line.

Joe Company, from Columbia, Mo., was the fastest overall male, completing the race with a time of 1:28:09. The fastest overall female was Kristin Moore, from St. Charles, Mo., who finished in 1:37:40.

The NEMO Triathlon is one of the longest running events sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the governing agency for the sport. Since the inaugural race in 1985, more than 40,000 people have visited Kirksville to take part in the triathlon.
