Randy Danielsen, PhD, PA-C emeritus, director, A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Science’ Doctor of Medical Science program, was featured on an episode of the “Physician Assistants (PA) for Tomorrow’s (PAFT)” podcast.
The episode, “Doctoral Degrees for PAs: Good or Bad,” was hosted by PAFT President Dr. Scott Stegall. Drs. Danielsen and Stegall had an open discussion about the benefits of PAs obtaining a doctoral degree and the overall outlook of the PA profession.
“Because the PA profession has changed so drastically over the last 20 years, prior to that, there was really no need, there was no discussion about PAs having degrees at all,” Dr. Danielsen said during the interview. “The creation of the professional doctorate really encouraged the combination of academic theory and professional knowledge as it applied to the workplace. Doctoral programs, a professional degree for PAs can only be good. I can’t see any downsides.”
