ATSU-ASDOH students and Arizona Cardinals provide free dental care at Team Smiles event
Posted: April 10, 2018On Saturday, March 24, students from A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) provided $85,000 in free dental care to 200 underserved children at the annual event, Team Smiles. The event was held in partnership with the Arizona Cardinals and hosted by the Phoenix Salvation Army Kroc Center.
Many children who attended Team Smiles were uninsured and would not otherwise have access to dental care. ATSU-ASDOH students provided sealants, cleanings, and fluoride applications. In addition to improving their oral health, children were excited to interact with dental students and players from the Arizona Cardinals.
“Thanks to Team Smiles, many dental students, such as myself, had the opportunity to be a child’s first dental provider, highlighting the significance of the event,” says third-year student Cayla Ray. “It was a unique and exciting environment. Students worked alongside the Arizona Cardinals and learned from practicing dentists and hygienists, while providing an incredibly important service to children in need.”
