Alumni gather at regional reception

ATSU alumni, students, and friends joined ATSU-SOMA Dean Kay Kalousek; Lee Herskowitz, DO, regional director of medical education; Martin Peters, DO, ’13; and Trish Beré, university advancement, for a reception in Portland, Ore. Below is a summary of their updates.

• Both the ATSU-SOMA osteopathic medical program as well as the family medicine residency in partnership with the Wright Center are being recognized for their innovative educational models and preparing exceptional doctors for serving the underserved. If you know of clinical rotation sites in the area where our DO students can further their training, please contact Dr. Herskowitz.

• The MPH programs within the College of Graduate Health Studies were recently visited by the accrediting council CEPH and have recommended that the programs receive accreditation.

• ATSU-KCOM students and graduates continue to excel at their studies and training. They are above the national average at every level of COMLEX, and they have a 100% match rate. Also, 53% of the Class of 2014 matched into primary care.

• ATSU-ASHS continuously grows in its number of students, faculty, and programs offered – and we’re celebrating its 20th anniversary next year! Please be on the lookout for more information on the anniversary celebration.

• It will also be a big year for ATSU-ASDOH next year, with the American Dental Association selecting ATSU-ASDOH as its national Give Kids a Smile kick-off site and ATSU-ASDOH celebrating its 10th anniversary of the service event. We hope to see many ATSU-ASDOH alumni back for the alumni weekend.
