ADA president visits ATSU

Maxine Feinberg, DDS, president of the American Dental Association (ADA), and Jody Vance, DDS, MS, PC, president elect of the Missouri Dental Association (MDA), were recent guests of A.T. Still University’s Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-MOSDOH). Hosted on the Missouri campus by ATSU-MOSDOH Dean Christopher Halliday, DDS, MPH, Drs. Feinberg and Vance toured the University’s Interprofessional Education Building, and spoke with ATSU-MOSDOH faculty and students as part of MDA’s Food for Thought series.

“I’m extremely impressed with the students, faculty, and facility,” said Dr. Vance.

The Food for Thought series is provided twice a year at ATSU. MDA provides lunch and brings in a speaker to discuss real-world topics in the field of dentistry and oral health. This series is sponsored by Missouri Dental Insurance Services Inc.

“I was so happy to have the opportunity to visit the school. It was a highlight of my year as president,” said Dr. Feinberg. “The fact that the students are living the interprofessional education model is very impressive. It’s not just theory, it’s in practice.”

Drs. Feinberg and Vance both specialize in periodontics. Dr. Feinberg, who lives in Westfield, New Jersey, is a 1980 graduate of New York University College of Dentistry, the ADA’s 151st president, and a 33-year ADA member. A resident of Springfield, Mo., Dr. Vance currently serves as an MDA trustee and will assume his role as MDA president in 2016. He is also an active volunteer for Missouri Mission of Mercy.

“I’m impressed by the cooperative spirit between the school and organized dentistry. To me, that only helps to improve the educational experience for the students,” said Dr. Feinberg.
