AT alumni celebrate at spring training game
Posted: March 6, 2013
Athletic Training (AT) alumni gathered on March 3 at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., to connect with other supporters of the AT program, receive updates from A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) leadership, and enjoy a spring training game between the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Randy Danielsen, PhD, PA-C, DFAAPA, dean, ATSU-ASHS; Eric Sauers, PhD, ATC, FNATA, chair, Interdisciplinary Health Sciences; and John Parsons, PhD, AT, director, Athletic Training Program spoke at the event. Below is a recap of the highlighted updates.
- In two years, the ATSU-ASHS will celebrate its 20th anniversary! What originally started out as a school with 60 students has now grown into a school with 1,300 students comprising numerous health sciences programs.
- The legacy of Dwight Patterson – businessman, founder of the Mesa Hohokams, and the Father of Cactus League Baseball – was celebrated at the event. Special guests at the event included Mr. Patterson’s daughter, Ann Patterson Cleghorn, and her family.
- Michelle Weber, AT ‘14, is the 2013 Dwight Patterson Youth Sports Scholarship recipient. The scholarship was created in 2004 to support ATSU’s AT students who demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of youth athletes. Michelle was recognized for her commitment to youth sports safety research, and she had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch!
