Research Interests: Dr. Phillips' primary research interests have been directed toward characterizing the role of Porphyromonas gingivalis and periodontal disease in poor pregnancy outcomes with a particular interest in determining the underlying mechanisms of microbial mediated vascular dysfunction and disease progression. Dr. Phillips’ long-term research interests also include the study of microbial biofilm tissue infections and its contribution to the development of chronic disease. Her most recent research in this area has been directed toward assessing the efficacy of antimicrobial agents and therapeutics in removing or inhibiting microbial biofilm in the oral cavity and in dermal wounds as well as the development of diagnostics to promote wound healing.
