University Council holds annual meeting

A.T. Still University’s University Council held its annual meeting Jan. 6 at the Tempe Center for the Arts in Tempe, Ariz. An Arizonabased group comprised of local leaders in business, healthcare, government, and education, the University Council exists to provide entre and resources to help ATSU realize its vision and mission.

Douglas Wood, D.O., Ph.D., ATSU’s senior vice president — academic affairs, spoke to the group of almost 60 about the university’s strategic vision. “Innovation, learning-centered education, and strategic public, private partnerships are inherent values,” he said. “It is why our strategic vision is the pre-eminent university for the health professions.”

The deans of ATSU’s three Arizona schools also spoke to the council about key areas of growth stemming from the university’s new strategic plan. ATSU- ASHS Dean Barbara Maxwell, PT, D.P.T., ’06, shared details about the school’s Still Standing Falls Prevention program. She also discussed ATSU-ASHS’ growth in post-professional education, which has led to a new focus on making lifelong learning a reality by partnering with individuals to fulfill their potential throughout their career.

ATSU-SOMA Dean Thomas McWilliams, D.O., FACOFP, discussed the need for additional space to adapt and respond to changes in medical education, team-based learning, inter-professional education, research opportunities, and community outreach.

Finally, ATSU-ASDOH Dean Jack Dillenberg, D.D.S., M.P.H., shared plans for the school’s new Center for Advanced Oral Health Education while emphasizing ASDOH’s continued growth.
