Thomas McWilliams, DO, appointed to federal advisory committee

The U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) has appointed Thomas McWilliams, DO, senior advisor to the dean on graduate medical education, A.T. Still University-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA), to serve on the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry. According to a press release issued by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), one of three DOs appointed to this committee, Dr. McWilliams, a third generation DO, was nominated by the AACOM for his demonstrated commitment to advancing innovation in medical education, primary care, and rural health. Dr. McWilliams will join Teshina Wilson, DO, and John Sealey, DO, both nominated by the American Osteopathic Association in a coordinated effort with AACOM to strengthen the osteopathic medical profession’s representation.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on this important committee, and I look forward to working with my esteemed colleagues on increasing best practices among primary care training to improve health outcomes and patient care,” said Dr. McWilliams. In addition to his role as Senior Advisor, Dr. McWilliams also serves as a professor of emergency medicine/family medicine at ATSU-SOMA. He previously served for ten years as the founding associate eean of ATSU-SOMA and the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University.
