Faculty, staff, and students honored the late Dr. Neil Sargentini on Friday, May 18. Craig Phelps, DO, ’84; Margaret Wilson, DO, ’82; and Dan Martin, MA, led a ceremony at the Thompson Campus Center dedicating the racquetball court in his name. With Dr. Sargentini’s wife, Jennifer, in attendance, Dr. Phelps, Dr. Wilson, and Martin shared warm words about the beloved professor.
Dr. Sargentini moved to Kirksville, Missouri, in 1991 and joined the faculty of A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). He served as professor and chair of microbiology/immunology, and during his 26 years at ATSU he mentored students, conducted research, and loved to play racquetball. Dr. Sargentini passed away on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017.
“Dr. Sargentini was a beloved teacher, respected colleague, and dedicated researcher who is greatly missed,” said Dr. Wilson. “He was also a passionate racquetball player who found a way to involve and engage many into the sport he so enjoyed. He will be long remembered for all his contributions and would delight in knowing that the racquetball court was named in his honor.”
