The Northeast Regional Office of the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) exhibit, “Fish, Fowl, and Forest” opened for display May 6 in the A.T. Still Memorial Library.
The library is delighted to work with the local MDC education consultant, Karen Armstrong, to bring information about north Missouri’s wildlife resources. The exhibit includes information on local hiking trails, conservation areas, lakes, and ponds. It also discusses what plants and animals we should avoid, such as poison ivy and ticks. Please stop by the local MDC office at 3500 South Baltimore Street, Kirksville. Located on 26 acres, the building includes a 1,500 square feet exhibit space, education classes for children and adults, and a pond and stormwater retention marsh. An interpretive hiking trail, approximately 0.8 miles long, covered in mulch for easy walking and handicap access winds through prairie plantings, marsh area, forest, and along the pond.
