On May 14, ATSU’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine held its 175th annual commencement ceremony at Baldwin Hall Auditorium on the Truman State University campus. The College celebrated its newest physicians, a legacy spanning back to its establishment in 1892.

This year, 176 students received the doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degree, 15 received the master of biomedical sciences (M.S.) degree, and three received dual D.O./M.S. degrees. Of the class of 2011, 113 men and 72 women graduated, representing 36 states and eight foreign countries.

John B. Crosby, J.D., executive director of the American Osteopathic Association since 1997, delivered the commencement address. He also received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree, conferred by ATSU President Jack Magruder.

“We have before us today 188 men and women of great will and vision, just as Dr. Still had: the vision to advance the science, practice, and philosophy of osteopathic medicine,” Dr. Crosby said. “Each of you is ready to be a D.O.”

Said one KCOM’s newest grads, Dr. Carl Lundberg, “I’m honored to know what a responsibility and a privilege it is to be in our position. I feel like I have achieved a dream and a life goal that will help make the rest of my life enjoyable and exciting.”
