From the classroom to the clinic

A sea of white coats filled McCreight Classroom on A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine on April 30, 2013.

It was a special day for osteopathic medical students in the Class of 2015 as they wind down their time on campus and transition into their clinical years at rotation sites around the nation.

Margaret Wilson, DO, dean, led the Student Clinician Ceremony where students were given words of advice, wisdom, and a reminder of the compassion that osteopathic medicine stands for.

Ray Stowers, DO, American Osteopathic Association (AOA ) president, was the keynote speaker. Dr. Stowers, a self-proclaimed storyteller, shared anecdotes and spoke of cherished patient encounters. He advised students to remember the basics and never forget the power of touch in healing. Remarks were also made by Maria Evans, MD, and Harald Lausen, DO.

Students pinned their peers with A.P. Gold Humanism in Medicine and AOA pins and Dr. Wilson concluded the ceremony by leading the future physicians in the Osteopathic Oath.

“We send you forward with love, good wishes, and great pride. We promise that we will still be with you. You’ll be back here walking across that graduation stage before you know it,” said Dr. Wilson.
