Distinguished alumni earn honorary degrees

Dr. Willman with Dr. Phelps

Michael K. Willman, DO, ’65, was presented an honorary doctor of science in education degree from A. T. Still University by President Craig Phelps, DO, at ATSU’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine graduation (ATSU-KCOM) ceremony held in Kirksville, Mo., on May 18.

The degree recognizes his long standing service to ATSU-KCOM and the medical profession. With a tenure of of more than 30 years on the faculty at ATSU-KCOM, he literally taught generations of osteopathic physicians. His leadership with the Northeast Missouri Osteopathic Charitable Trust has been instrumental in providing funds that support students and residents in training at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Willman is retired and lives in Kirksville. His family includes, wife, Janet, daughter, Amy Willman, sons, Michael R. Willman, DO, ’92, and Paul A. Willman, DO, ’95. To honor the occasion and his personal inspiration to them, the children have provided a special gift to ATSU-KCOM in his name.

Paul Williams, DO, ’64, also received an honorary degree at the ceremony.

Dr. Williams served as faculty of ATSU-KCOM for over 30 years where he was a professor in the department of Radiology. Dr. Williams taught literally generations of osteopathic physicians and has continued to serve the profession and students through the Northeast Missouri Osteopathic Charitable Trust.

Dr. Williams is certified by the America Osteopathic Board of Radiology and is a member of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic College of Nuclear Medicine and is a fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology.
