Dignity Health awards grant to ATSU Falls Prevention program

A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) Aging Studies Project together with East Valley Adult Resources and Rebuilding Together, received a $62,373.00 grant from Dignity Health to support Safe at Home Community of Care (SHCOC). SHCOC, an initiative created by Dignity Health, aims to reduce fall risks in elderly populations by addressing three common causes of falls: poor health management, poor nutrition and exercise, and trip hazards around the home.

In supporting SHCOC, ATSU, East Valley Adult Resources and Rebuilding Together will collaborate to provide educational resources, nutrition support and home safety modifications to seniors living in low income trailer park communities in the East Valley. According to the project summary, by addressing these common causes of falls in the home, SHCOC mitigates pressures on the health system and emergency services. Prior to Safe At Home, each agency worked independently to address this issue. This collaboration is an evolution in programming that will allow partners in the SHCOC to provide greater support and education to each person they serve.
