Capturing memories

First-year occupational therapy student Jake Bishop took up photography eight years ago and has been a professional photographer for three. “I spent my life savings,” he says, “on a digital camera in 2001 that’s about as powerful as the one that’s now in my cell phone.”
These days, what began as taking photos for friends and family has resulted in a business and a portfolio website at www.JakeBPhoto.com. He hopes to expand soon to indoor studio photography.
“My wife is also a great photographer,” he says, “and we love working together. “Photography has been a great way for us to grow as a couple, and I know it helps me get my mind off of the stresses of school. I don’t quite know how I’ll be able to use my photography skills in occupational therapy, but it’s helping us get through school, so it’s definitely been a blessing.”
Bishop’s children, Kidd and Lyla, are his favorite subjects, and he estimates he’s taken nearly 1,500 pictures of the two. “Give me another couple of years and I’m sure that number will grow exponentially,” he says.
“I love all kinds of photography and love being able to capture special moments for people. To me, photos are memories, plain and simple.”
