ATSU’s Missouri campus celebrates Founder’s Day 2019

From Thursday, Oct. 10, through Saturday, Oct. 12, A.T. Still University (ATSU) hosted events and ceremonies during its annual Founder’s Day celebration on the Kirksville, Missouri, campus. ATSU students, alumni, faculty, and staff all gathered to honor A.T. Still, DO, founder of osteopathic medicine and the University.

Events included a women’s flag football game, a half marathon, continuing medical education programs, an alumni recognition ceremony, an alumni art show, lectures, campus tours, and Still-A-Bration with inflatables, outdoor games, and live entertainment.

Each year, as part of the Founder’s Day celebration, a nationally recognized expert on neuromusculoskeletal medicine/osteopathic manipulative medicine is selected to present at the Fred C. Tinning, PhD, Founder’s Day Osteopathy Lecture to students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

ATSU was proud to welcome Frederic Schwartz, DO, FACOFP, ’69, for this year’s lecture, “Will Success Spoil the Osteopathic Profession? What will it Mean to be a DO?” Dr. Schwartz specializes in family medicine and works as a professor of family medicine and as a senior adviser to the dean of ATSU’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona. For those who were unable to attend or are interested in viewing the lecture, please view the lecture’s video.

Founder’s Day began as a simple memorial service held each fall by colleagues to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Still. This became an annual tradition. Over the century, Founder’s Day has evolved into a celebration of our founder and the rich history of leadership in healthcare, education, and scholarly activity he began. Festivities are held each year so the entire ATSU community may renew old ties, make new acquaintances, and celebrate the University’s growth and success in shaping whole person healthcare education.
