ATSU to host lecture on aging
Posted: February 7, 2008KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Feb. 7, 2008 ) – The ATSU Committee on Aging is sponsoring the Fourth Annual Lecture on Aging featuring Sue Levkoff, MSW, SM, Sc.D., enhancing healthcare providers’ understanding of the challenges and opportunities in treating and caring for older patients.
Dr. Levkoff is associate professor in psychiatry at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and associate professor of the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Levkoff has served as director for the Harvard Upper New England Geriatric Education Center and principal investigator and project director for a SAMHSA-funded multi-site randomized trial on Primary Care Research in Substance Abuse and Mental Health for the Elderly (PRISM-E). She also served as director of the SAMHSA-funded Positive Aging Research Center (PARC), a technical assistance and education center for evidence-based behavioral healthcare for older adults.
Dr. Levkoff was the recipient of a five-year NIA Special Emphasis Research Career Award (SERCA) that focused on reducing excess disabilities in elderly patients with cognitive impairments. She served as principal investigator of NIA’s Exploratory Center Grant and received a NIA-supported Leadership Award to develop the Center of Excellence on Minority Aging.
The lecture will be broadcast on ATSU’s Arizona Campus at 1 p.m. MST in the Saguaro A & B Classrooms on Friday, April 4, and on ATSU’s Missouri Campus at 2 p.m. CST in the McCreight & Couts Classrooms. The public is invited to attend, and the ATSU Committee on Aging encourages healthcare practitioners in any field to take advantage of this free event.
