KCOM president emeritus is Great Pioneer
Posted: September 7, 2011On July 15, the American Osteopathic Association honored KCOM President Emeritus Fred C. Tinning, Ph.D., for his contributions to the osteopathic medical profession with its Great Pioneer Award.
Great Pioneers are chosen based on the following criteria:
- Must be living D.O.s or non-D.O.s who are able to share a historical perspective of the profession and who have been involved with the profession for at least 25 years
- Are directly responsible for making a difference in the profession and helping move it forward
Dr. Tinning earned his bachelor’s (1959), master’s (1961), and doctorate (1973) at Michigan State University (MSU). He served as president of ATSU’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1984-96. In 1994, the college dedicated the Tinning Education Center in his honor.
Dr. Tinning boasts numerous recognitions, having been selected by the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association Board of Directors to receive its Living Tribute Award (2003) for his many years of outstanding service to KCOM and to the osteopathic profession. In 1999, the MSU Alumni Association honored him with the Distinguished Alumni Award for his exceptional community, state, and national service.
