ATSU physical therapy program announces 2019 Mason Vig Scholarship recipient

A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) student, Hanna Honn, DPT, ’20, received the 2019 Mason Vig Scholarship. Mason was a physical therapy student who passed away in 2012. The scholarship was established in his honor. It is awarded annually to an exceptional student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.

Honn is active in the Student Physical Therapy Association and co-chairs the annual Move for Mason event. An avid golfer, Honn was inspired to pursue a career in the field after a physical therapist helped her recover from a back injury and return to the sport that she loves. In the future, she hopes to work with an adaptive sports program, helping people with disabilities enjoy the physical and emotional benefits of sports.

“It is a true honor to not only have received the Mason Vig Scholarship, but also to have been nominated as co-chair of Move for Mason,” says Honn. “This has been an extraordinary experience, and I am very grateful to have been a part of it.”

For the past four years, students from ATSU’s physical therapy program have raised money to support the scholarship. Last year, Mason’s parents, Patti and Joe Vig, created an endowment to ensure the scholarship would live on in perpetuity as their son’s legacy.

“This scholarship is possible first and foremost because Mason’s parents strongly support ATSU, but also because our students have made this effort something they believe in, dedicating their time and energy to raising additional funds to build the endowment,” says Karen DeCarlo, director of development.
