ATSU launches new university library

A.T. Still University Memorial Library to launch April 5
ATSU is launching a new university-wide library on April 5, unifying the Arizona and Missouri campus libraries. The establishment of the A.T. Still University Memorial Library (ATSMLib) is a part of the university’s move toward combining the two campuses into a single unified university structure. Working together, the two campus library locations will take the lead in providing focused library and academic computing support of the schools on each campus. “The new unified library structure will provide a consistent, coordinated set of resources and services across the ATSU community,” said Michael Kronenfeld, university librarian. “The opportunity to better pool our resources and expertise will enable us to upgrade these services for everyone.” The following are goals of the integrated library system:
- Continue building and upgrading library collections.
- Maintain a focus on the learner and the learning environment.
- Work closely with the university’s schools/colleges and its programs to support scholarship and research.
- Continue to work closely with the university’s academic programs and faculty to integrate the use of library-supported information and an evidence-based model of clinical practice into curriculum and instruction.
- Provide support for faculty in the use of educational technology and academic computing in developing and supporting digitally-based content.
- Continue assisting students in use of the library’s resources and services to enhance their coursework and professional practice after graduation.
The first university-wide service of the ATSMLib is the opening of the Academic Computing Support Desk. The support desk staff will provide answers to basic questions about the use of academic computing software and services and, if needed, refer individuals for more in-depth consultation. Although physically located on the Arizona campus, ATSMLib is available to support programs and faculty on both campuses. Michael Kronenfeld, formerly director of the Learning Resource Center in Arizona, will serve as the university librarian and as the director of the Arizona ATSMLib site. He reports directly to Douglas Wood, D.O., Ph.D., senior vice president – academic affairs. Doug Blansit, formerly director of the ATSU Memorial Library in Missouri, will serve as director of the Missouri ATSMLib site. A new, single university-wide website that organizes and integrates the library’s broad and varied digital collections is also being developed. “It will facilitate our users’ ability to easily access and make use of the best evidence available in support of clinical education and quality care,” said Kronenfeld. Its target launch date is in early May 2011.
