UPDATE: Championing the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event canceled for Missouri campus

UPDATE: Due to the winter weather expected Friday, the Championing the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event has been canceled on the Missouri campus.
A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) alumnus John Thurman Jr., DO, ’12, will share his inspiring story of service as part of the University’s Championing the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event, Friday, Jan. 17.
Sponsored by ATSU Diversity & Inclusion, the event is set for 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Mehegan Classroom in Kirksville, Missouri. The speech will be shared via livestream with ATSU students, faculty, and staff in Mesa, Arizona. That event will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Saguaro B.
Dr. Thurman is an osteopathic physician certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He is a graduate of ATSU-KCOM and received his bachelor of science in systems engineering from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.
Dr. Thurman served as a United States Army officer and captain in the Field Artillery branch, and he received the Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in 2007. He also provided healthcare during a volunteer medical mission trip to Haiti in 2018.
He is presently a board member of the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association.
