ATSU-ASHS student receives Federal Advocacy Scholarship Award

A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences’ (ATSU-ASHS) Hunter Madich, PT, ’21, received the Federal Advocacy Scholarship Award from American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Geriatrics. Two recipients of the award are offered financial assistance to attend the Federal Advocacy Forum (FAF) in Washington.
“This scholarship was a huge blessing. Attending the FAF is an opportunity to network and see how the next generation of physical therapists can become more involved in fighting for our field,” Madich said.
Scholarship applicants are required to be in good standing within their academic program and demonstrate a contribution to the physical therapy profession through advocacy efforts and professional involvement at the chapter level. FAF brings together members for networking and discussion about regulatory affairs and federal priorities as well as an opportunity to speak directly with their representatives about issues facing their state and profession.
“I hope to be a part of the start of young physical therapists wanting to take the bull by the horns, instead of waiting for a solution to be presented to them. It is important that we do not become complacent and that we keep pushing to maintain what we have earned as a profession,” Madich said.
Madich was nominated by Jamie Kuettel, PT, DPT, NCS, GCS, assistant professor and director of progression and retention for ATSU-ASHS’ Physical Therapy program. Madich was recently named 2020 Outstanding PT Student by APTA Geriatrics.
