ATSU-ASHS faculty to take top honors at NATA Symposium
Posted: April 3, 2009MESA, Ariz. (Mar. 19, 2009) – Two papers authored by faculty at A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) will be honored at the 2009 National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Annual Symposium on June 17-20 in San Antonio, TX. One took top honors and the other second runner-up for the Journal of Athletic Training Clint Thompson Award for Clinical Advancement.
Alison Snyder, Ph.D., ATC, associate professor of interdisciplinary health sciences, was lead author on the paper that won first prize, “Utilizing disablement models and clinical outcomes assessment to enable evidence-based athletic training practice: Part I – Disablement Models.” Tamara Valovich McLeod, Ph.D., ATC, athletic training associate professor, was lead author for the second runner-up, “Utilizing disablement models and clinical outcomes assessment to enable evidence-based athletic training practice: Part II – Clinical Outcomes Assessment.”
Co-authors on both papers included John Parsons, M.S., ATC, assistant professor of interdisciplinary health sciences; Curt Bay, Ph.D., associate professor of interdisciplinary health sciences; and Eric Sauers, Ph.D., ATC, ATSU-ASHS athletic training program director and chair of the department of interdisciplinary health sciences.
Both papers were a result of Dr. Snyder’s NATA Research and Education Foundation (REF)-funded post-doctoral research fellowship in clinical outcomes, ATSU’s strategic research grant funding, and a NATA REF project grant.
