ATSU-ASDOH alumna receives Distinguished Service Award

Mai-Ly Duong, DMD ’12, MPH, associate director of A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health’s (ATSU-ASDOH) Special Care Clinic, received the Distinguished Service Award at ATSU-ASDOH’s alumni barbecue in February 2020. Dr. Duong was nominated for this award by Scott Howell, DMD, MPH, FSCD.
The Distinguished Service Award honors ATSU-ASDOH graduates who have attained local, national, or international distinction within their profession or discipline. The award is given to those alumni who advance the University’s mission in support of its programs, thereby ensuring the University’s impact on our community and future generations of students.
Dr. Duong has accomplished so much already, and her work has impacted the lives of thousands of patients through the education of students and residents in the practice of special care dentistry. But, she doesn’t stop there. Dr. Duong presents at local, national, and international levels educating others on oral health practices, such as the importance of oral cancer screenings and oral health of women.
“Dr. Duong shares her clinical skills with patients in a variety of settings, including private practice (Sundance Dental), volunteer community settings (Neighborhood Christian Clinic), and volunteer health events (Day of Special Smiles and Special Olympics),” Dr. Howell said.
She was recognized as one of Phoenix Business Journal’s 40 under 40, which honors top business and civic leaders under the age of 40.
“It’s hard to not be at a loss for words to truly describe the impact Dr. Duong has had on her community and the world around her,” Dr. Howell remarked. “She strives every day to be the best healthcare provider she can be, as evidenced by the extensive continuing education she has completed, attaining a fellowship in special care dentistry and her mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry.”
