Academic Computing Support Desk announced

The new, university-wide A.T. Still Memorial Library (ATSMLib) and its Educational Technology Development Center (ETDC) have established the Academic Computing Support Desk, which will provide service commencing April 5. The support desk staff will provide answers to basic questions about the use of academic computing software and services and, if needed, refer individuals for more in-depth consultation.

“This service is being set up as a complement to the current ITS Help Desk, which focuses on computer-related hardware and software problems,” said Michael Kronenfeld, university librarian. “The Academic Computing Support Desk will focus on questions relating to use of academic support resources.”

For the last three years, since the establishment of the ETDC, the ATSMLib in Arizona has been working to develop a support service for the effective use of academic computing software and services. This support service was greatly strengthened by the recent appointment of William (Bill) Coombs as director of the ETDC. With the establishment of this full-time, professional-level position, the ETDC has been able to expand this support service and to establish the Academic Computing Support Desk.

An additional key support person was recently added with the hiring of Sam Perez by ATSU’s Arizona School of Health Sciences. Perez is an experienced course development professional and works with the ETDC in support of faculty in developing and using ATSU academic support resources to strengthen teaching effectiveness.

The support desk is located in the ATSMLib-Arizona, with hours of operation Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. MST. Walk-in, e-mail (etdc@atsu.edu), and phone (480.219.6090) service will be available. Access and use of the support desk are available to both the Arizona and Missouri programs’ faculty and staff.

The ETDC’s web page and online support center – the Educational Technology Support Services and Tools page (http://guides.atsu.edu/academictechtools) – will continue to be developed as an online support resource.  It will continue to provide FAQs and tutorials that will be updated to include questions frequently answered at the support desk.
