Khanh “Connie” Chu, DDS, assistant dean of clinical education in A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) was presented with the Living Tribute award at the 2017 ATSU-ASDOH alumni barbecue on Friday, Feb. 17.
Dr. Chu was nominated by Mai-Ly Duong, DMD, MPH ‘12, assistant professor in ATSU-ASDOH’s Advanced Care Clinic, for her accomplishments and contributions over the last 10 years as a faculty member of ATSU-ASDOH. Dr. Chu provides dental care to many vulnerable groups, including Indian Health Services, geriatric populations, and special needs populations, and is also a mentor to many ATSU-ASDOH students.
Dr. Duong also noted “Dr. Chu is a walking example of the mission of ATSU – which is to cultivate strong and compassionate health care leaders in the community.”
Dr. Duong’s nomination also noted her long relationship with Dr. Chu and how it evolved: “There is no one better suited for this year’s Living Tribute than Dr. Khanh Chu. As a student, I looked to her for support and advocacy. As a resident, she was my trusted advisor regarding professional decisions and how to navigate the new dental world. And now as a colleague and peer, she continues to give me the mentorship necessary to help me find my path towards professional growth and success.”
The Living Tribute Award was established to recognize and honor ATSU-ASDOH faculty, staff members, and administrators for outstanding accomplishments and/or long-term service to the school.
