Lessons in a lunch box

ATSU-ASDOH partnered with The Maryland Children’s Oral Health Institute to participate in the Lessons in a Lunch Box program this spring. Eleven ASDOH students presented a 60-minute oral health education program and distributed oral healthcare lunch boxes to 239 children in kindergarten through 3rd grade at Four Peaks Elementary School in Apache Junction, Ariz.
The main objectives of the program are to heighten dental students’ awareness of underserved populations through a service learning activity; provide oral health supplies and education to children; and integrate oral health education into the elementary school curriculum by providing four oral health lesson plans to teachers for use in the classroom.
