KCOM holds Gift of Body ceremony

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, Peter Kondroshov, PhD, anatomy chair, KCOM, led over 100 medical students and staff to a hilltop in Kirksville’s Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery to conduct a ceremony in remembrance of those who have donated their bodies to science for the benefit of medical education.

Student doctor Austin Carr and Dr. Kondroshov welcomed approximately 20 family members and friends of the donors who also attended the noon Gift of Body ceremony. Representatives of KCOM’s student body shared personal testimony expressing the significance of each donor’s gift to future healthcare providers and their patients, which was followed by a musical selection performed by the student musical group, the MEDleys, and the spreading of the ashes.  A brief reception for those attending followed in the Centennial Commons.
