Evidence-based medicine keynote address held

A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) curriculum and Faculty Development in Evidence-based Medicine (R25) grant held a keynote address on Monday, May 11, titled “Evidence-based Medicine: A Culture of Caring”, on the Missouri Campus. The keynote speaker was Allen Shaughnessy, PharmD, MMedEd, co-founder of Essential Evidence Plus and Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters (POEMs). Dr. Shaughnessy currently serves as a professor of family medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and is widely considered an early adopter and content expert in the field of evidence-based medicine and information mastery. The keynote address and preceding reception, hosted by the KCOM Dean’s Office, was attended by Missouri campus faculty, staff, and students as well as Truman State University faculty. The keynote address was livestreamed to allow for offsite participation and is recorded for future viewing. The recording can be accessed at http://live.atsu.edu.

The ATSU-KCOM R25 grant is set to end on June 30, 2015. The program was funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, and was designed to improve the application and generation of essential clinically relevant, research-related information to vulnerable populations through the use of evidence-based medicine concepts. In partnership with ATSU’s Continuing Education, the grant has provided three online faculty development training courses with associated continuing medical education credit at no cost. These offerings can be accessed at guides.atsu.edu/EBM. For more information, please contact Taylor Grimm at stilllearning@atsu.edu.
