Costa Rica CME program draws record crowd

At the January 21-23 continuing medical education program, Primary Care Update-International Medicine at Diria Beach & Golf Resort in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, 35 physicians enjoyed insight into healthcare delivery systems and diagnostic and treatment methods of Costa Rica. Updates on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with common medical problems were provided.

The Diria Beach program has historically been delivered to a small group of physicians. This year’s attendance was a record, and each physician brought along family and friends, bringing the total group to approximately 85. Nineteen of the 35 physicians were KCOM graduates.

“All lectures were well-received,” said KCOM CME Director Kim Blackman. KCOM Dean Philip Slocum, D.O., ’76, who served as program chair and honored speaker, presented two popular lectures and Robert Jackson, D.O.,’81, presented three popular lectures beachside.

This program was held on behalf of the Costa Rica Osteopathic Medical Association, whose goal is to establish unlimited practice privileges for D.O.s in Costa Rica and to assist in advancing student rotations in Latin America.
